Nedslag i Danmarks historien 1864-1920
Det var i 1864, at vi fik bank på Dybbøl og at Danmark dermed mistede store dele af landet, havne og mennesker. I perioden var Kongeåen rigsgrænse mellem Danmark og Tyskland. Da Kongeåen løber gennem Vejen Kommune er der således en del steder, hvor man kan se spor i dag.
Syd for Kongeåen kan du se eksempler på tysk arkitektur - pudsigt nok ikke ret meget, for man havde efter Genforeningen travlt med at fjerne sporene. Nord for Kongeåen finder du mødestedet Skibelund Krat, som spillede en centralrolle i kampen om at få en folkeafstemning om det nationale tilhørsforhold. På begge sider af åen vrimler det med mindesten for Genforeningen. Det er den begivenhed i Danmarks historien, som der er rejst flest mindesten over.
